Quick Read
At LivaNova I was the sole designer responsible for the clinician tablet interface used to manage VNS Therapy for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. I worked directly with engineers, executives, and clinicians to redesign key therapy workflows, establish design standards, and introduce system-level improvements that aligned the product with real clinical use. My work included designing core navigation and interaction components, improving therapy configuration flows, and introducing a structured design-to-engineering workflow using Figma. These improvements helped simplify complex therapy management tasks and strengthened collaboration across engineering, regulatory, and product teams. The design foundations established during this phase informed later iterations of the platform.
Role
Product Designer responsible for translating complex therapy workflows into a safe, usable, and clinically reliable interface.
Key Contributions
Conducted clinician interviews and usability testing to understand workflow breakdowns, decision-making challenges, and gaps in system feedback.
Research Approach
Conducted early user research and community outreach through conversations on Twitter and LinkedIn to better understand experiences with cyberbullying and recruit early adopters.
Outcomes
Improved clinician confidence when configuring therapy
Increased clarity in system states and therapy adjustments
Reduced ambiguity in critical clinical workflows
Aligned product design with clinical, technical, and regulatory constraints
Core Learning
Designing for clinical environments requires prioritizing clarity, safety, and trust over speed or visual preference.
